If you’re a music enthusiast, look no further than Mabu Vinyl, located just off the corner of Kloof Street. As you walk into the shop, you cannot help but feel a sense of travelling back in time to an era of older mediums such as vinyl, cassettes and videotapes. “There’s no other shop like it,” says Stephen Segerman, who has been co-owner of the shop since it opened more than ten years ago. “It’s a record shop in the city, and you don’t find many of them anymore around here. And it’s more than just a shop, it’s an experience.”
The shop has a selection of new and second-hand items including vinyl, DVDs, cassette tapes, videos, books, t-shirts, as well as refurbished turntables and USB vinyl players, all for sale at a more than reasonable price. It caters for a wide variety of music tastes, with a collection that includes both international and South African artists. Whether it is rock, pop, country, soul, blues, classical, dance or jazz that you are interested in, there’s sure to be something that both surprises and satisfies you. In fact, you’ll want to come back several times just to absorb all that there is to look through.
